Tough Day for Barack Obama

Separation Anxiety; for Democrats!?

Today was a very sad day for Barack Obama. 1st, it started out with an elephant bearing his name being hunted down and killed in India; for crimes against humanity. An elephant; imagine that. I guess it was making an Ass of itself.

Today was also a day that Obama announced he was resigning from his church, of 20 years. In the aftermath of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's inflammatory remarks about the US and then a reiteration of those remarks, last month at the National Press Club in Washington, and then more controversial remarks made by a 2nd Pastor of the same church; Obama is walking away from the organization.

I didn't know you had to officially resign from a church but I guess Obama felt it was a necessary step to make in order to let every voter know that he has different beliefs than that religious order. The problem is, many voters will now ask, 'what if any beliefs does he have?'.

A candidate without a church is hard pressed to squeeze what few right wingers he can muster anyway. Unfortunately, right wingers are not all he has to convince, in the US. There are devout followers of religion, it self, all over the voting map and they all vote as if that were where their compass was pointing them. Despite how there is verbiage in our Constitution that mandates a "Wall of Separation" between church and state, in the 1st amendment, many voters don't believe that.

Thomas Jefferson also wrote:

“I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.” - 1802

Wouldn't it have been safer for Obama to pick another church to attend and then announce that it was his place of worship now? Now he has walked away and from not only a place of worship but from God all together. At least that will be the view of many voters.

Are Super Delegates as devout as the voters who cast many popular votes?

50 Cent; House Fire

Very Mysticious

Fire burned down a $2.4 million-dollar Long Island home owned by Rapper 50 Cent today. The Blaze is under investigation, by the Dix Hills Arson squad, as it is deemed suspicious.

Six people were hospitalized by the fire including the Rapper's former girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins and her two children. Tompkins sued the Rapper, earlier this year, for the home.

Emmy Award Winning Comedian, Harvey Korman Passes Away

Harvey Korman passed away today, due to complications from the rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm, four months ago; he was 81.

Korman is best known for his role on the 'Carol Burnett Show', where was in his element, sketch comedy. He won 4 Prime Time Emmys.
Korman most memorable film role was the outlandish Hedley Lamarr in Mel Brooks' 1974 Western satire, "Blazing Saddles." He would make several movies with Brooks over his film carrier.

Korman was always known for his slightly off center straight man roles. He was always the befuddled character that brought a sense of order to chaotic situations, only to have it unravel inevitably.
My favorite scenes with Korman were when he teamed up with Tim Conway. They were much like Abbott and Costello with Korman in the Bud Abbott role.

With Freinds Like These...

Today, a book written by former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, was released. The book was not a flattering portrayal of President Bush or his cabinet.

McClellan wrote that Bush made serious errors in judgement, when it came to the Iraqi war, and it was because of misinformation given to him by his advisers. He also said the aftermath of Hurricane Catrina in New Orleans was handled poorly.

The final damaging revelation and the main reason for McClellan resigning his position at the White House, in 2006, was because he was deliberately given false information by Carl Rove, Scooter Libby and Vice President, Dick Cheaney about the Valerie Plame/CIA leak and encouraged to deceive the media, but unknown to him at he time.

Weather McClellan knew certain information or not and weather he chose to perpetuate falsehoods or not may never be known. His timing for this book should be in question, however. He appears to be an opportunist who chose to take this time, when Bush's approval rating is so low and during an election year, to capitalize on a book deal. After all, most of what he wrote in not news to anyone.

What kind of friend (and that's what he describes himself as) would be so deceptive. Isn't it hypocritical of him to call George W. Bush his friend and then write such damning things about him afterward.

What's the 1st rule of 'Fight Club' dick head? Enjoy the paycheck because most people won't want to trust you with their business anymore.

Passing of a Hollywood Legend

Academy Award winning Director, Producer and Actor of stage, screen and television, Sydney Pollack lost his battle with cancer yesterday; he was 73.

Pollack was one of the best directors in Hollywood as his list of movies will attest. He directed a long list films like, Three Days of the Condor, Absence of Malice, Tootsie, The Firm and The Interpreter to name some of his best work. Most recently he gave us Michael Clayton and Leatherheads. It was in 1985, however, that Pollack was awarded with an Oscar for Out of Africa. He has worked with and developed some the elite, in Hollywood; from Dustin Hoffman to Tom Cruise to Nicole Kidman to George Clooney. The list goes on and on.

Perhaps Sydney Pollack's ability to work with great actors stems from his ability to act, himself. Pollack was a pretty good actor as he could be seen in many movies that either he directed or produced. A testament to his acting chops, however, may be that he was in many films that he did not direct or produce. He even had parts in several television series, most notably perhaps, a recurring role on HBO's The Sopranos.

Sydney Pollack will be missed.

Hillary Reminisces About Good Times On the Campaign Trail

Oh look Willie Jeff! That man has a sidearm.

Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton Jr. stuck her foot in her mouth again when, while explaining her reasons for not dropping out of the race, she referred to past campaigns that turned around a candidates fortunes when they got to California primaries. She made mention of her husband, Willie Jeff Clinton and Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy's campaigns.

Mentioning RFK's campaign was not a fortunate move, for Clinton, as she later had to apologize for mentioning the assassinated Kennedy.
Maybe Hill was getting back at Teddy Kennedy for endorsing Barack Obama in his run for President.

Or maybe... she was there; under fire.

Pass the Torch (and make the new guy brave the snakes)

Indiana Jones and the
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Today, 20 years after the last Indiana Jones movie, we finally get a fourth installment to the highly successful collaboration between Steven Spielberg and George Lucus.

Nobody rushes George Lucus.

Spielberg directs this one; Lucus wrote the screenplay. I can't wait to see it even if the critics are less enthusiastic about it.

Harrison Ford, looking very fit being almost 68 years old and all (Really! He was born, July 13, 1942), returns as the lead. He reportedly held up pretty good during filming. It must be that Calista Flockhart diet, he's on.

Unfortunately, Sean Connery, now retired, decided not to reprise his role of Indie's father. Connery, incidentally, is only 12 years older than Ford, as he was born on August 25, 1930. The casting of them as father and son always bothered Connery, a bit, but there must be some similarity as both actors have aged gracefully.

There is somewhat of a passing of the torch in this installment as Shia LaBeouf joins the cast. LaBeouf, star of 2007's Transformers, seems to be the new Action/Adventure star in all of the new blockbusters. Naturally; Harrison Ford, who knows a thing or two about action/adventure movies that turn into franchises, should be the guy to hand over the whip and Fedora.

Suddenly, I feel very old.

American Idol Gets It Right?

The American Idol finale, tonight, wrapped up it's most talent filled and yet most boring season, to date.

David Cook was dubbed the American Idol to the chagrin of many David Archuleta fans. Let's face it, Cook may not have had as nice a voice as Archuleta but it wasn't bad and he had much more talent. Cook is also more marketable in mainstream music. Let's face also that Archuleta is not going to walk away a looser as he will go on and carve out a nice carrier; especially after he sheds his meddling dad.

Next season, American Idol better take a look at their formula and revamp some things. This season was a disaster as it always seemed to be on the verge of boring people to sleep. It may be a singing contest but if the singer has no personality then what's the point?

Case in point; Amanda Overmyer. It was so painful to watch her on stage with her robotic dance moves and then she sang... and sang again. What a monstrosity! Even Brooke White looked like she had someone other person's two left feet; maybe they were Archuleta's.

They have got to get it right next year.

Surrendor Dorth... uh err, Hillary

Is it finally time? Is Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton Jr. going to give up the race? There are tell-tale signs that usually indicate that a candidate is realizing the end is near. It's usually what happens when a candidate wants to extend an olive branch after months of bitter debate and smooth out a path for transition into a partisan effort to beat the other parties candidate.

If you could smell the color tan, it would smell like John Edwards

John Edwards is as about as far out on a limb as it gets for one who is in a forest of balsa wood dowels. Yesterday, he endorsed Barack Obama to be the Democratic nominee.

This endorsement would have meant something in MARCH! But Obama has all but secured the nomination, already. So along comes Mr."I have no interest in the Vice Presidency". How very bold.

Blaaa...

Edwards must have thought long and hard about this one. He must have pondered for days. It must have been the debate in his head during the debates, when he was a candidate. He certainly didn't say anything, AT ALL, during those conversations. He just stood there and looked dumbfounded; as usual.

And then...

The Hardest Hit of All

Trigger Man
3 Dumbshit Accomplices

Today, a miscarriage of justice occurred when the death penalty was ruled out as an option for the 4 shitbags that took the life of Washington Redskin Safety, Sean Taylor. Because they were minors at the time of the shooting, there will be no appropriate justice in this case unless they are forced to be cell mates with the largest Skins fans in prison. The only punishment we should have been discussing, this time of year, was the hits Sean was going to put on opposing offenses.

Rest in Peace
Sean

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Henry Hager

Today, educator, leader in the "No Child Left Behind" fight and celebrated author of "Ana’s Story: A Journey of Hope", Jenna Welch Bush was married to Henry Chase Hager of Virginia. They were wed, at dusk, at the brides parents home in her hometown of Crawford, TX.

Father, George Walker Bush poses with the lovely bride.

After a honeymoon, abroad, the Hager's plan to settle down in Baltimore, MD where the groom is employed by Constellation Energy. It is believed that Mrs. Hager will seek employment as an educator in the local school system.

Perhaps HBO might want to consider one more season of the wire.

Good luck to the happy couple.

Hmmm; wonder what's going on with the bride's hot twin sister.

The Hunter's actually won the lottery in January but the 73 year old construction company owner decided to wait 4 months to claim the prize because he wanted to finish some projects he had started.

Now he will retire.

How to win the 'Race'

By Senator Hilliary Rodham-Clinton Jr.

Today, Senator Hillary Rodham-Clinton Jr., while grasping at anything to keep her head above water, blatantly did 'it'. She used the 'Race Card' against Senator Barack Obama.

Clinton dismissed Barack Obama as a candidate who will have a hard time winning support from ‘white Americans.’ She said, "I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on... Obama's support among working, hardworking Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me... There's a pattern emerging here.”

What a poor pathetic move to make after mounting a respectful comeback in the poles and Presidential race. This just goes to show you what kind of President Clinton would be if she finds a way to win the nomination and general election.

Clinton takes shots at Obama about being out of touch with the American people, after his unfortunate remarks about the working class being 'bitter'. She then turns around and makes remarks about race, to drum up whatever votes she can muster from such a dumb ass base tactic.

What an immoral desperate looser this idiot has turned out to be.

Shell Head

The Summer movie season has officially started. Leading it off is the much anticipated Marvel Comics Iron Man.

I must admit, I was never much of an Iron Man fan. I always thought that he never really fit into the Superhero role very well, as the character has always been self centered, self gratifying and egotistical. Those are his good traits.

Iron Man is also flawed as many Superheros are but not in good ways. I liken him to Batman from DC Comics the most. Both of these characters are loners yet seem always to be teaming up with others despite this trait. Neither have Super Powers but have manufactured themselves into Superheros with their great wealth and high intelligence.

As Bruce Wayne (Batman's alter ego) is, Tony Stark (Iron Man's a.e.) is a ladies man. The difference is that Wayne is only posing as a ladies man to distance him from his brooding alter ego. Tony Stark is more self indulgent and seems not to care when breaking a girl's heart.

While Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark are both philanthropists, Wayne actually comes across as sincere when he gives to the community. Stark is only looking for a tax break.

I could go on and on but why bother. The irony is that my favorite Comic Book Superhero is Batman and my favorite comics are from Marvel. Iron Man has always been one of my least favorite characters and DC comics, at least during the years I was reading comics, was always a bit disappointing.

All that being said, Iron Man the movie looks like it's going to "kick ass". I'm really excited to go see it. Maybe because they have updated the character or it's the special effects but this movie looks like a hit. It does have one of my favorite actors, Robert Downey Jr., playing the lead role. Either way, I can't wait to see it.

DNC Gnome Travels from Candidate to Candidate

Traveling DNC Gnome, Joe Andrew, speaking
to a member of the Press Corp.; at, of all places,
the 2000 Republican National Convention

Yesterday, Joe Andrew, who was Democratic National Committee Chairman from 1999-2001 rallied hometown Indianapolis voters in support of Senator Barack Obama.

Andrew's cry, to unify the Democratic party and stop the bleeding and possible irreparable damage that the current rift between the two Democratic candidates may be causing, is noble. However it wasn't very long ago that he was in support of his former employer, Bill Clinton's wife.

Last year when Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton Jr. announced her candidacy for President of the United States, Andrew endorsed her immediately. Now he, in true Democratic fashion, flip-flopped his support. He cites two important factors that lead him to reverse course.

Barack Obama opposes the proposed 'Summer Gas Tax Holiday', even though it would be the politically correct or easy path to follow during an election year. Senator Clinton is in favor of it.

Andrew also likes the way Obama has handled himself during the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy. Obama initially refused to denounce his former pastor, when Wright openly criticized the United States. He did so after Wright suggested, among other ludicrous suggestions and accusations, that Obama really agrees with him.

“He has shown such mettle under fire,” Andrew said. “The Jeremiah Wright controversy just reconfirmed for me, just as the gas tax controversy confirmed for me, that he is the right candidate for our party.”

Andrew has valid points and he's correct about the damage this race is causing the Democratic party. After all, Republican candidate Senator John McCain has had a pretty easy time lately, as the Democrats do all of his work for him and he is able to run neck and neck with them as a result.

Note: McCain supports the Summer Gas Tax Holiday but denounces Rev. Jeremiah Wright, if you're keeping score.
