Today was a very sad day for Barack Obama. 1st, it started out with an elephant bearing his name being hunted down and killed in India; for crimes against humanity. An elephant; imagine that. I guess it was making an Ass of itself.
Today was also a day that Obama announced he was resigning from his church, of 20 years. In the aftermath of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's inflammatory remarks about the US and then a reiteration of those remarks, last month at the National Press Club in Washington, and then more controversial remarks made by a 2nd Pastor of the same church; Obama is walking away from the organization.
I didn't know you had to officially resign from a church but I guess Obama felt it was a necessary step to make in order to let every voter know that he has different beliefs than that religious order. The problem is, many voters will now ask, 'what if any beliefs does he have?'.
A candidate without a church is hard pressed to squeeze what few right wingers he can muster anyway. Unfortunately, right wingers are not all he has to convince, in the US. There are devout followers of religion, it self, all over the voting map and they all vote as if that were where their compass was pointing them. Despite how there is verbiage in our Constitution that mandates a "Wall of Separation" between church and state, in the 1st amendment, many voters don't believe that.
Thomas Jefferson also wrote:
“I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State.” - 1802
Wouldn't it have been safer for Obama to pick another church to attend and then announce that it was his place of worship now? Now he has walked away and from not only a place of worship but from God all together. At least that will be the view of many voters. Are Super Delegates as devout as the voters who cast many popular votes?
